gression
emerged out of the Southern California Skate punk scene in the early
1980's. Hailing from Oxnard (which bands, through their aggressive
sound, became known as "NARDCORE"), Agression was on the new
wave of merging punk and the skate-boarding cultures. The merging
of these two cultures created a fast driven, angry and defiant sound
that was as unique as the bands that played the music.
The
band consisted of the late Mark Hickey (vocals), the late Mark Knowles
(guitar), "Big Bob" Clark (bass) and Mark Aber (drums).
True to their nature, the band skated and partied hard and played their
unique brand of skate punk even harder. The band released numerous
albums, including "Don't Be Mistaken" (BYO) in 1988, "Agression"
(Mystic) in 1985, and "Live at the Underground Railroad"
(Mystic) in 1986 amongst others. Agression,
through the help of manger Scott Hatch, appeared at the famed CBGB in
New York City in 1985 with the well established band FEAR. Mark
Hickey was quoted to say that, "It wasn't difficult to appreciate
the coolness of FEAR and Agression on the same bill." In
late 1985 Mark Aber left the band to fill a spot with The Angry
Samoans. Agression began to lose steam and recorded a series of
low quality live recordings, and the band eventually ground to a halt. Mark
Hickey left the band and moved to Colorado, with band members to
follow. In 2000 he passed away due to liver failure. After
his passing, Henry Knowles decided to keep the music alive but in 2002
he too passed away due to leukemia. Fortunately, with "Grind
Kings" Mark Aber has agreed to keep this hard hitting, in your face
sound alive.
